Downed (Gridiron, #3)Downed by Jen Frederick
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

4.75 stars!!

"Once upon a time, I probably would’ve been a man who’d hurt her, but not anymore. Now I’m the one who’s going to love her.

This was my favorite in the series so far :)

I was pretty disappointed with Ace in the last book, but he just did a 180 for me in this one!

Sometimes I have a hard time with heroes who are total manwhores and Ace was basically the walking reason that contraceptives were invented. In the last book there was no doubt about the fact that Ace put his dick into anything with a vagina. One of the main reasons that weren't a big turn off for me in his book is because there is no detailed or alluded to sexual contact with any other woman then the heroine here. Ace also starts to understand in this book that the reasons for his slutting around and I appreciated that the author made it more than just the fact that he likes P**sy.

"Ace is a decent man. I know he is. He just needs a little more confidence in himself so he doesn’t have to find it in women."

Ace and Bryant's story was definitely one with sexual chemistry and connection, but there was also a depth of emotion that I wasn't quite expecting. I knew that Ace was troubled from the previous book. In the beginning, you think this book is all about "fixing" Ace. You can tell he has some issues just looking at his behavior, but I think the author did a really great job at showing him turning around his self-destructive behavior but also keeping the "asshole" ish part that makes him who he is.

"If Bryant's one skill is people, my skill is not giving many fucks at all. Except about her."

Bryant was such an interesting character. One of my most likable heroines! For the whole beginning of the story, she reminded me SO MUCH of Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side . She just seemed to have everything so under control and has this huge heart she uses to take care of everyone around her. Unfortunately, she uses that care for others as a shield to keep everyone at an emotional distance; using her compassion for others as a shield so no one will look too closely and see the damage she carries from a tragic past.

This was such a great addition to the series and such a great story for Ace :) Love it
