PROM KINGPROM KING by Penny Wylder
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is my first book by this author and I was drawn to it because of the blurb (and lets face it, the cover ain't to shabby either!) I was kind of in the mood for something light and quick and was going into it without any crazy expectations.
I can say that it neither disappointed nor exceeded my expectations.

I wasn't really looking for a story that was going to blow my mind with deep meaning or give me puffy face from emotional crying. Just a light and airy little romance before I get back into my Dark Romance kick again.
This book hit right on the mark.

That being said, I did have some issues with this book
PLOT
We start out with our heroine Ollie (Olivia) who is described as a nerd who is shy and quiet, the doormat brand character. Her best friend drags her to her highschool reunion, to which she really did not want to go due to a humiliating and scaring moment from the teenage years. (view spoiler) They show up at said reunion and she sees her old high school crush typical hottie/jock/out-of-my-league type Adam. Adam is a sweet guy, who despite being a jock and very popular in high school never really enjoyed the high school "fame". Turns out, he has actually had a thing for Olivia too throughout highschool.
Upon their re-connection, sparks fly and sexual shenanigans ensue! Adam, however, has a big secret that he has hidden from Ollie and one that could ruin the fragile new relationship.

Stuff I liked!
- Adam was not your typical man-whore Jock and there was not OW drama or cheating. HUGE plus! I HATE scenes with OW, just makes me want to throw the book against the nearest wall and since mine is a Kindle the aftermath would be very sad for me.

- We always expect the heroine to be strong and stand up for herself because these are qualities we like a person. However, I am kind of a fan that the author stuck with the true personality of the character, or at least the one she is described as. It drives me crazy when in the beginning of the book you have some wilting flower of a heroine and the as soon as she meets the hero she is all of a sudden some 'I am woman hear me roar' type. Just kind of throws me off.

-The pace was good. I never felt like the story was dragging or slow which is the worst!

Stuff that made me say "Hm... not so much..."
- There was not much development of their relationship to show why they even liked each other. There was only one time where it was mentioned they even spoke. So, he is this super hot Jock who has developed a crush to the point of pinning over the girl for 10 years! over a girl who he had barley ever even talked to in high school?? hmm... Their relationship from the reunion on felt way too familiar. It was said they had "known each other for years" but in reality they had only known each other existed for years, nothing more than the superficial. So the ultra familiarity just seemed a bit contrived.
- There was a bit TOO much sexy time in this book. Yes! You heard me right! HOLD THE STEAM! Through the middle of the book it was pretty much all they were doing and I would have liked to hear more about the emotional connection instead.
